Illustration of a woman sitting cross legged on the ground with a speech bubble above, saying ‘I just want somewhere we can go and be normal. Where I don’t have to explain. Where we’re not a problem to be solved.’

The Tide & Times Café emerged from 15 years of sitting with families navigating dementia – amounting to thousands of hours bearing witness to both the profound challenges and unexpected gifts that dementia brings. Again and again, we heard the same quiet longing:

Our story

We’re creating that place in Bayside Melbourne, with plans to extend the model to regional Victoria through mobile dementia cafés.

Every person affected by dementia can regularly connect with a community that honours their dignity, celebrates their present self and combats the isolation that dementia so often brings.

Our vision

Creating a world of warmth and understanding for those living with dementia, one conversation at a time.

Our mission

Our values

  • Dignity first

Every person living with dementia is a whole human being with a lifetime of wisdom, relationships and experience.

  • Authentic connection

Real relationships matter more than professional distance.

  • Co-design in action

People living with dementia have equal decision-making power.

  • Patience as practice

We move at the pace of the slowest person.

  • Joy and laughter welcome

Dementia is hard, but life still contains moments of lightness.

  • Community accountability

We’re accountable to the people we serve.

  • Honest compassion

We acknowledge the loss, the grief and the frustration. And we show up anyway.
